Fenway Park At 100 celebrates the centennial of the oldest (and smallest) ballpark in America. Using a Red Sox/Yankees game as a thread, the film tells the story of Fenway’s long history as a venue for sports and as a public space: masses for WWI soldiers, a 1922 Irish Republican rally, FDR’s last presidential campaign speech, concerts by Bruce Springsteen and others.

A decade ago, it looked as though Fenway would be largely destroyed and replaced with a new ballpark. Luckily, wiser heads prevailed and one of Boston’s most popular attractions, and a landmark for baseball fans everywhere, survived.

On March 25, 1911, a fire broke out in the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory in New York’s Greenwich Village. Workers tried to make their way downstairs, but the doors on their floor were always locked and the fire escape soon crumpled.

LAWRENCE WELK'S BIG BAND SPLASH, hosted by bandleader and trumpeter Doc Severinsen, is a celebration of the Big Band Era's classic hits, performed by the great Welk Band and the talented Musical Family on the popular “Lawrence Welk Show.” Broadcast on network television from 1955 to 1982, the Welk Show has been a popular weekly series on many public television stations since 1987.

Tony Bennett made music history with the Grammy-nominated CD Duets II when it debuted at the top of the Billboard Album charts, making Bennett the oldest vocal artist ever to achieve the number one spot.  Recently nominated for three Grammys, including Best Traditional Pop Vocal, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, and Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s), the critically acclaimed album followed the 85-year-old singer’s Grammy-winning 2006 Duets CD, which had, in turn, been released in honor of his 80th birthday.

Surviving Disaster with Amanda Ripley will air Sunday, March 11, 2012, at 2:30 p.m.
