Ms. Veronica Ayala was appointed student regent for ENMU's Board of Regents in March 2015. She is a Communicative Disorders major with over seven years of experience teaching children across Kids' College, sports camp, and dance studio settings. Ms. Ayala is a Portales native who intends to enroll in ENMU's graduate program in the summer of 2015 to continue her studies in the field of speech-language pathology. She is currently the vice president of ENMU's National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association and has participated in several of the University's fine arts programs, health and physical education program, and intramural sports. Ms. Ayala has been involved with Relay for Life events since high school and has taken part in other civic activities such as the regional science fair and the Portales Arts Council.

Alex Smith began working in radio as an intern at the National Association of Farm Broadcasters. A few years and a couple of radio jobs later, he became the assistant producer of KCUR's magazine show, KC Currents. In January 2014 he became KCUR's health reporter.
