Walker Percy: A Documentary Film - airs Sunday, July 8th at 9:30 p.m.

Walker Percy (1916-1990) was a critically acclaimed writer and popular novelist of the late 20th century. Early on, he turned away from his medical training to pursue writing and philosophical questions about the meaning of life and social isolation in the modern age. However, much of his fiction invoked wit, humor and imagination, thereby making his existential search a universal one. His six novels, including The Moviegoer — which won the National Book Award in 1962 — became best-sellers. This program, which profiles a significant Southern writer who often wrote of the South’s traditions and culture, features beautiful cinematography and stylized re-creations and includes interviews with such authors as Richard Ford, Walter Isaacson and Jay Tolson.
